So I just received for the PSP in the mail today. Playing the old DOS version with no sound was getting boring, so when I found this version for cheap, I thought “why not?”. Now I get shiny graphics and voices!
Unfortunately I get easily addicted to management games like this one, and ended up spending my time marathoning through this game today. And here’s a little about what the game is like (there will be a few minor spoilers, but it’s not like the story in these games is that deep). The story starts out traditionally – the world is ending, and a hero shows up, saving the day by slaying the demon boss. (Only this time it’s a woman doing the slaying – woo!). Travelling the world the protagonist hero, now all alone, is handed a small girl in a forest. He is asked by his former lover (the demon-slaying superwoman) to raise this child, and he agrees.
Now the game begins with a diabetically cute little girl only 10 years old. A lot of people shy away from Princess Maker games, saying that it borders on the pedophile. I don’t believe so. It’s a fun game with and interesting concept, and I know for a fact that a lot of females enjoy playing them as well. But I still feel like doing a head-desk when that little girl says that her dream is to “marry her papa”.;; Differently from the old Princess Maker 2 that I played last, this version is filled with events and pretty CG’s. The daughter also has a wide range of friends that she gets to interact with. And as she grows a little older, potential grooms show up – yay, this game has bishies!!
Since I used to do well at the warrior route back in the days, I decided to try my luck at that here as well. I keep loosing the battles at the festival though.
I run into a guy called ‘Charles’, riding a white horse. He claims being a knight, but keeps running away from someone. It’s not hard to figure out why. My daughter ‘Rio’ grows up – soon she meets Charles as the castle as well, and spends a couple of christmasses with him. For once I actually manage to both do well with her warrior training, and also get all the way up to the queen and king when visiting the castle!
Things are going well, I think! I even manage to win the final tournament! The great day arrives – the day of the dancing party when Rio is 18 years old. She and her friend goes to the castle to finally see the prince. While Rio waits in excitement, she sees that the prince is, in reality, Charles (as if we didn’t know that already). The prince smiles, and comes walking towards Rio and her friend. ‘Yes!’ I think.
I finally got the Prince Ending!’ “Would you like to dance?” he asks. “Oh yes!” answers the friend. Next we see mr. Prince and Rio’s childhood friend dancing around, while hearing Rio think about how happy she is for her friend. Poor Rio ends up alone, and goes out to fight in the war.
She becomes some hero or something. Screw the prince! Next time I’ll go to Dark Town and go after that red-eyed bishie I saw there.
Wow, does PM4 have an English translation?! I never knew! Hmm, perhaps I should try it out “Playing the old PM2 DOS version with no sound was getting boring” Hmm, can’t you get the sounds to work? There should be some other.exe besides the game one in the folder, and you can adjust the sounds from that one. For some reasons, it is default on off I wish I could give you more specific instructions, but PM2 doesn’t quite run on my 64-bit system, so I can’t confirm which file it was ^^; Anyway, Princess Maker is a wonderful series, great to know that you like it too! A few things to say:.
I remember, not so long ago, how children would indeed say things like “mommy, I’ll marry you!”. And because children say this in the most innocent way possible, it would be seen as utterly cute, even though it’s clearly not a possibility.
I miss the old days 😠x90. Your tale of ending alone has me do a dramatic hand-extended “Nuuuoooh!!!” gesture XD. That was really below the belt ^^;. PM2 does get sound if you run it with DosBox. I discovered that last Christmas when we all (#baka) did our PM2 runs:). On the other hand, it’s only music, so it’s not like you were missing much.
Good luck with red-eyes! PM4 was 99% translated for PC by a company that ended up going bankrupt before it was ever released. If you use an old program like DOS-Box and you have the proper version that got leaked, you can play the game, with full menus, titles, and even conversation in full sound and music. There is a handful of endings that were never completed though and you will run into them occasionally. In the end it is a great game and I am upset people are so ignorant not to bring it to the States. I mean, it seems enough people are willing to import it or download an illegal copy, why not make some extra cash and just translate it already?
Princess Maker 4 - English patch News (April 16th, 2008) - Thanks to everyone who bought stuff from me! I've gone ahead and put the partial translation patch for Princess Maker 1 up for download. This is a patcher to translate the interface for the Japanese PC version of Princess Maker 4 into English. I used to point people at Himeyashop to buy it, but it's gone out of business; you may be able to pick up a used copy somewhere, and sells it (though you'll probably need a shipping service - they don't ship to the US, at least; not sure about the rest of the world.) If anyone has a non-Amazon vendor selling PM4, let me know - IIRC, Amazon US mistreats their employees and their hosting branch practices political censorship, so I'd rather point at someone else.
I've tested it against the Memorial Box version; Kirigirisu reports that it works on the standalone version. The patch will not work right on the Korean version. To report problems, successes, etc,.
The patcher's free; if you want to thank me for it, there's two things you can do: 1). (If you like the Princess Maker line, then you'll probably also like Cute Knight Deluxe. Which I didn't write, but do get a small commission on if you buy it through these links: / ). 2) Only use it on LEGAL copies of PM4! If the patcher leads to more sales, the authors will benefit (and maybe consider translating future Princess Maker games.) if it leads to a bunch of lamers warezing it everywhere, it will be a cold day in hell before you see translated PM games.

I was rummaging through my attic the other day and found an old CD copy of Princess Maker 2 (kr version). The rush of nostalgia forced me to look for any other copies. And I did find a Princess Maker 3 (kr version) but it was too scratched to play and my computer couldn't read it. I ventured online to find any existing copies but couldn't find any.
From what I gather, I know there's a English copy of Princess Maker 2 free to download but the rest of the series come up empty. I saw a translation team working on Princess Maker 5 but they stopped development since 2013? When it was only 90% finished @.
I used to have several games like the Princess Maker franchise but I have no idea where they are. But I know they exist out there! If anyone has any recommendations for classic RPG games that fit that genre please throw them this way (preferably non-western because I find the discrepancy between the Princess Maker series and westernized versions like Long Live the Queen vastly different. SORRY) It would be even better if it was in Korean cause then I could understand the story. P.S I will look through Korean blogs/forums to see if there are copies available. P.S.S Also if there are any development teams who want to tackle translating Korean RPGs of this kind I'd be happy to help.

I have some experience translating webcomics and stuff for Manhwa scanlation groups. I think the category you're really looking for is 'Raising Sim' and not 'RPG'. Additionally, most Dating Sims (NOT Visual Novels) also include a character raising aspect in addition to the dating mechanics. The most famous Raising Sim series I can think of off the top of my head after Princess Maker are:. Graduation series (Graduation 2 came out in English from Mixx, the rest is JP ONLY). The Idolm@ster P.S.
The Princess Maker series was actually Japanese, not Korean. The JP's LOOOOOOOVE themselves some date-sims. Wow thanks for the detailed reply!
I guess it is more simulation than rpg.maybe a mix of both? Princess Maker 2 is really one of a kind. I know Japanese variations like dating Sims exist but I don't know japanese (only Korean) and I find some of them to be too.errr. Also I don't know how to explain it but it lacks variety in endings. It usually has your ending set based on the guy you end up with and disposes the protagonist as a damsel in distress whether its a male or female. Maybe I just haven't/can't play japanese sim games and it predisaposes me to the stereotype conveyed on the genre but. I have had better experiences with Korean simulations/rpgs.
I'd love to help translate some of my past favorites into English but I don't know anything on the technical side. I will look more into this after I finish studying for my exam haha. I played PM when I was like 7.and found maybe one or two games that came close to its callabar but in essence they were all dating sim games with more or less.predictable plot. Again, you look like you want a RAISING sim as opposed to a DATING sim.
Princess Maker really is Japanese, in fact it was developed by the same twisted people who brought you Neon Genesis Evangelion and FLCL (Gainax. No lie!) And, well yes, the endings for a lot of the dating sims are mostly variants on which girl you get, but then that's the entire point of the game. The in-game events you get leading up TO that point and getting to know the intricate details about your target characters are what's more fun about playing those.
(Like in TokiMemo 3, you have Serika Those scenes blew me away when I saw them for the first time.) So let's look at Graduation (an actual raising sim.) I suppose you have damsels in 'distress', but then that 'distress' is that you need to tutor their butts into college. Yeah, you can end up marrying one of them, but that's kind of a cop-out ending rather than the best end. And as for Angelique, I guess I would consider it more of a raising sim than a dating sim. You're supposed to culture a fledgling world in a competition to become QUEEN OF THE UNIVERSE. Of course, you COULD throw it all away for one of the hottie advisors you have, but meh. Actually, re-reading your post again, I'm not quite certain what you mean by 'disposes the protagonist.' With TokiMemo, for example, the girls really aren't in any 'distress' as far as I could remember.
The whole game is about getting one to confess to you under/on/in the legendary tree/bell tower/path between the shrines/chapel/etc. SentiGraf 2, I could kind of see the 'damsel in distress' thing, I suppose.
I mean they DID just Edit: durrrrrrr me no format gud. My personal collection mainly consisted of console versions since I wasn't into the porn. Many of them like Comic Party were actually out on PC first with H scenes (read: titties & mosaic'd bush/usually shaved poon.) but when they transitioned to console ports, they took out the H and threw in stuff like 'Oh hey, here's a random new character to make up for all that p.y you're not seeing here.' Tokimeki Memorial: Forever With You (the first game) actually had an ancient Win95 release.
Good luck finding it though, you're more likely to run across the old SNES emulated file of 'Tokimeki Memorial: Densetsu no Ki no Shita De' (Tokimeki Memorial: Beneath the Legendary Tree') Graduation 2 was released for PC, it's really ancient and I hate the terrible voice acting on the English version. Princess Maker 2 ALMOST had an official US release, but the finished product died in beta. Softegg had a sort-of tearful ceremony where they returned Gainax's 'poorly-raised daughter' to them at one Fanime con.
Comic Party, again, had an H release before the DreamCast port. Pretty much all of Leaf/Aqua Plus's titles run that way. They're pretty consistent with putting out good products, IMHO. Most of them are just Visual Novels, however. So do your homework before committing to buying a game, since they're pretty expensive.
I have several releases in the Angelique series for Win95. Now that I'm nosing around a bit, Gainax also made 'Neon Genesis Evangelion: Ayanami Rei Raising Project' for Windows.

(Note that I am neither encouraging or discouraging you from seeking said porn. Just be aware it exists on that list.). Yeah I guess I wasn't clear haha.

I just meant Japan is more known for their dating Sims. I could be wrong on that but that's what I assumed. Researching games like PM2 on Korean forums atm now that I have some down time. Can you believe PM2 was released in 1993.LOL. Anyway there is a recent one they released in 2014 from the franchise.but they killed the indie feel of it and theres no plot. It's basically a mobile game. Will update when I find something.
Here's a video of it: OO I just found a revamped PM2.like the characters face/poses look.really different and strange. I also found Korean versions of PM1 and PM3. Haha if anyones interested:/.
